Will Chariots of Fire Go Down in Flames?

Nancy has seemingly decided that we {so far looks like me and maybe her sister Bethany have been talked into it} should train and run in the Seaside Half Marathon in March. Until now, we've kept the training under a mutual "blog wraps". Sure she's mentioned it to everyone under the sun and we have a whole gang of girls ready for a nice ladies weekend to watch us three fools miserably run until we either want to die or kill ourselves. So I figured sink or swim, I'm putting it out there and maybe, just maybe I'll go through with it.

Truth be told, the longer distance/time that I find myself running, the more I find myself thinking, "why in the hell would I want to run 13.1 miles? Two miles is surely more than enough." If I were able to run a 10-minute mile that would mean that it would take me 2 hours and 18 minutes to finish. And why in the world would I want to run for over two hours?

It all really started when I boastfully told Ben that I could train and run in a 5K in one month. I told Ali and Nancy about my lofty pursuits and I was even inspired to get out there and do it. But after reading up on training programs, seems one month for couch to 5K was a little ambitious. Nancy then, took it upon herself to one-up me, as she usually does, and decided a half marathon was a much better idea. As if I wasn't lofty enough {but I think her true motivation is the Vera Bradley bag that they give you at the end}!

At first it sounded doable and even served as motivation to get me to the gym. It's kick started a healthier routine and healthier lifestyle. And I realize that a half marathon is one of those bucket list sort of things. So I get it, I do. But I have to say that the 5K is sounding better and better. Even a 10K sounds daunting right now. When do you get to that euphoric state that runners speak of? Someone please tell me it's somewhere just past the 20 minute mark and keeps you fueled until the 13.1 mile mark?

I started thinking that Nancy and I really need to get serious, so here you have it...it's out in the blogosphere. Serious enough? Next up, time to get serious about the nutrition portion and proper footwear. I'm just hoping praying eating right, supplements and good footwear helps me make it to 13.1!

Tonight I saw this You Tube video on Tosh.O. Shamefully, Daniel Tosh is my new favorite comedian. He's so inappropriate, but so hilarious! I realize he's not for everyone though.

Anyways, I couldn't help but laugh hysterically, then show it to Ben and laugh with him hysterically at this video. All I can imagine when I watch this, is that this is how Nancy and I will look at the end of this run. Please keep that in mind when you hit play...

And in the true spirit of our friendly competitiveness {with everything in life from ballet to blogs}, I only hope that I'm the one that crossed the finish line first!

  3. Nancy failed to inform me of this being under a mutual 'blog wraps'....so, I blogged that I was doing this awhile back, so I would be forced to stick with it! If I have to crawl across that finish line, I WILL complete the 13.1 miles {in front of the both of you, of course}! :-)

  4. Bethany - I saw your post, clearly your sis forgot to mention that you were not to let the cat out of the bag. You've got 10+ years on us, so you will likely be the one that coasted across the finish line while these two women were crawling to their deaths.

Unell - I hadn't thought about the attire, I guess when you run for 2 hours, those panties are probably better than the chaffing that regular shorts are going to leave. Hmm, yet another reason to not run in this half marathon...

  5. I just watched this video. Certainly these people were running more than 13.1 miles... right?!?!? I'm scared...
