It seems to be feast or famine when it comes to weekends around here. Some weekends we have back-to-back birthdays or parties, events, plans, meetings, visitors and/or travel arrangements.
For instance, the first weekend in November, we had a Dancing with the Stars event for the American Lung Association, the kids went to the fair with Nana and Poppy and we wrapped the weekend with a cowgirl birthday party for Abby Ginn.
Other weekends are slow and lazy. Dare I even say boring? On those weekends when we don't know what else to do, we pack up the kids and get out.
For instance, last weekend included a mundane trip to Sports Authority for a jump rope, Old Navy for new socks for Paige and Bed, Bath and Beyond for K-Cups. Playing sports in the side yard, practice riding bikes and going for a run. On Sunday, looking for more activities to fill our day, we hit up a local attraction, the St. Marks Lighthouse and National Wildlife Refuge to scope out the Monarch migration and other marsh-land creatures.
One thing that always passes the time is Sunday {or Saturday} drivin'. Our lazy morning in p.j.'s and trip to St. Marks was followed by a long drive up Hwy 59 to Lloyd along the countryside, dreaming of owning a farm with horses and chickens, land, open spaces to go four-wheelin' and being self-sustainable with our own seasonable crops. Crazy, huh? It was glorious.
This weekend is shaping up to be a crazy one again. Brunch and pedicures {to celebrate Nancy's birthday}, back-to-back kids' birthday parties, football game {for Ben}, a holiday event, meetings, more running {in preparation for a Thanksgiving Day 10K} and lots of baking to get ready for a week of Thanksgiving celebrations at school and home.
It's sure to be a feast over the next week and for that, I am thankful...Happy Thanksgiving!
