Melting Moments

I have Valentine's on the brain. Since my Valentine will be out of town this weekend, I've decided to celebrate this holiday with my other two loves, Jack and Paige. Sunday we are planning a Valentine's playdate at the park with a few friends. Truth be told, what really spawned this was this really cute outfit for Paige that I received as a gift.

Jack's school is celebrating Valentine's Day today with a pizza party and Valentine's for the kids. These are the cards that he picked for his friends.

Can't see them? Here's a closer look.

Is anyone surprised that he insisted on the dinosaur cards? We finished them off with candy and Jack was ready to deliver them to all of his friends at school.

I decided to make these yummy treats for all of the 3-year-olds and the teachers.

Chocolate

Cream Cheese

They are called Melting Moments and the recipe is from the Junior League Cookbook A Thyme to Celebrate. There are four easy ingredients.

Baker beware, using flour, powdered sugar and cornstarch makes for a messy kitchen.

I've made them according to the recipe in the past, which tops them with a cream cheese and confectioner's sugar frosting. But I decided that the frosting could be done many different ways to give them a different flavor. For instance, you could add orange, raspberry or almond flavoring to the frosting and give it a totally different taste. Chocolate would also be a good addition. I made mine with this.

The cream cheese icing is more buttery than the recipe frosting. And the chocolate, I think, may be my favorite thus far. I thought the kiddies would like these better than the original recipe, plus the canned stuff pipes better and the sprinkles added a fun and festive touch.

So if you haven't bought a JLT cookbook yet, you should go here and purchase one now! I use mine all the time. And while I made cookies, I also prepared this yummy and hearty Vegetable Beef Soup recipe.

It was perfect for a chilly February day.

With Valentine's upon us, I've been thinking about my own moments that melt my heart. Sleeping babies for one.

Paige has learned to love her carseat and best of all, fall asleep when I put her in it. She loves it so much that I now put her in it when she falls asleep at home and I put her in a dark bathroom with the fan running to create white noise. She quite literally, sleeps like a baby now.

My three-year-old that copies everything I do, melts my heart.

Nana made this t-shirt for Jack with her new embroidery machine for Valentine's Day...just 'cause I asked her to. Incidentally, a mother that does whatever I ask for because she loves me and my kids, melts my heart.

I've learned that Valentine's is more than just a holiday of cheesy cards and a dozen red roses. It's for appreciating all of the people in your life and things in God's great world that you LOVE.
