Major Overhaul

We are making some big changes around our house.

Ben and I are putting each child in their own bedroom and moving our bedroom to what-used-to-be the playroom. For those that don't already know, our house has two masters. One upstairs and one down. Jack will move into our old master and it will be his room, but also our guest room when company comes-a-callin'.

Here ye here ye! From this day forward, all toys will now be sequestered to the second floor of the house in each child's bedroom and in the communal loft area between both bedrooms. No exceptions or excuses. Let's see how long that lasts!

We decided to do this now that Paigey is no longer a baby and thus not needing mommy and daddy in such close proximity. Also, just as Jack is graduating from preschool to big kid school, we thought it's time to graduate him from nursery to big boy room {*tear* how sad is that?}. Jack is very excited though.

Ben is pretty darn excited, too. For those that don't know Ben real well, he has this disease that his dad passed on to him...it's nomad's disease. Every 4 or 5 years, he gets the itch to move to another city. Which is pretty much what he did his whole entire life as Roger would get his academic programs up and running in the athletic departments of major universities, then he'd hand the program over and they'd move to a new city and start all over again. I've decided that this is the cure...makeover your home. It's a win-win for us. He feels like his surroundings have changed and I get to redecorate.

This project started this weekend with a re-painting of the playroom and some clearing out of stuff.

Green to gray {Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter to be exact}...voila!

Notice that the room is empty {except for a few red pillows which I have decided will be my accent color in the room placed where the bed will reside}. This transition is a multi-stage and multi-faceted process. We are taking this opportunity to dust, clean and refresh the nether regions of the house where dust and dirt settles and hides. This week carpets will be cleaned {thanks to a timely purchased Groupon} in phase one {the downstairs} of the home. Be sure to check Facebook for {good} items that we are no longer in need of. I will be selling and donating items all along the way.

I am struggling a little with the decor. Here is the inspiration piece/focal point for the bedroom. It's a BevShots print that I bought for Ben for Christmas. I love the vibrant colors and I think it will pop against the gray walls.

Here is the dresser that will also be in the room {and there's a matching night stand}, but we need to find a bed to match them.

Now I just need some good ideas on bedding, curtains and accessories. Send 'em my way if you got 'em!

Here is the new playroom/loft area in transition. This will be much more organized when we get new shelves and organizers for the communal toys and media center.

The doorway in the last picture will be Jack's new bedroom, which he has decided needs to be Batman themed. I pretty much already have the vision for that room in its finished state, so it will probably be the first to be done, just in time for the big 5th birthday.

It will take time, lots of energy and money to complete the whole transition. We will keep you posted on our progress and the makoverhaul.
